Tooth loss can happen suddenly or after some time due to wear and/or gum disease. Whatever the cause, you’ll find it hard to smile confidently when there are large gaps between your teeth. Tooth loss also makes it hard to eat and puts you at greater risk of cavities. It can also lead to dental drift. Dental implants can help permanently resolve the issues associated with tooth loss. You can learn more about implant treatment from your Periodontist, Dr. Hoda Hosseini at ClearCare Periodontal & Implant Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Implants take a unique approach in the replacement of lost teeth. Whereas other restorations are supported by adjacent natural teeth, implant restorations are supported by a titanium post embedded into your jaw as an artificial tooth root. Once the post is placed, it will gradually integrate with your jaw bone over the following 4 to 6 months to become a permanent foundation for your artificial tooth.
For implant treatment to be successful, you must have sufficient jawbone density to support the implant, or it won’t be able to withstand the pressures of biting and chewing. If the bone density is lacking, your doctor may recommend a bone graft to reinforce your jawbone before implant treatment. We’ll also evaluate your oral health to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy enough for this treatment.
Implants offer numerous options for restoring your smile’s functionality and appearance.
Single tooth implants – Single implants can replace one or several teeth individually, using one implant for each tooth. A dental crown will be attached to the implant to function like your new tooth.
Implant bridge - If you’re missing several teeth in a row, we can use two implants to support a dental bridge. We’ll customize your bridge to match your natural tooth shade, size and shape to blend in with your smile.
Implant-supported dentures - We recommend full-arch implant restorations combined with custom-crafted dentures to replace all your teeth. All-on-four or all-on-six implant-supported dentures will give you greater stability for biting and chewing without slipping, shifting or coming loose.
With implants, you don’t have to compromise your lifestyle or quality of life, as implants restore the look of natural teeth, function and feel. Unlike traditional dentures and bridges that sit on your gums, implants are embedded into your jaw surgically, becoming a permanent part of your tooth system.
